thriller at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (LATFOB). Titled The Suicide Merchant, the book

is a beautifully-written piece of contemporary fiction replete with vivid descriptions, purposeful messages,

and relatable characters. The book festival ran from April 22 to 23, 2023, at the University of Southern

California, Los Angeles, USA.

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, which started in 1996, has drawn about 150,000 visitors from

various parts of the globe. It is recognized as the most extensive book fair in the country, with famous

writers and influencers participating in the book festival every year. The festival provides an excellent

opportunity for emerging authors to gain motivation and support from their peers and interact with their

readers.

The Suicide Merchant tells the story of a man named Ben who possesses a supernatural gift. Ben has the

overwhelming sixth sense to experience the final moments of a person’s life (what they feel, think, and

do) and uses this ability to find these troubled souls to prevent their deciding fates by using a gift he calls

an “exchange”. However, in order to give these miraculous yet terrifying exchanges – Ben must experience

their deaths himself. One day, Ben experiences a vision more sinister than any he's had before, the

horrifying fate of many before it happens.

This up-and-coming author’s book has twists and turns that keep readers on their toes guessing about the

truth from an unassuming superhero's point of view. Its page-turning plot will make readers' hearts beat

faster, making it hard to put down. Cheyne Peck's brilliance shines through his excellent writing style and

characterization. He has created a well-developed character while preserving the right amount of

suspense, making a supernatural thriller a worthy read.

The Suicide Merchant by Cheyne Peck reminds its readers to value life and to be more compassionate.
